Die Firmengeschichte beginnt 1976 mit dem Firmeninhaber Wolfgang Schroeter. In diesem Jahr gründete er einen kleinen Stahlverarbeitungsbetrieb in Barrie, Ontario, Kanada, wo er mit der Herstellung von Stahlgeländern begann. Damals konnte noch niemand den unglaublichen Erfolg von Wolf Steel Ltd. und der später folgenden Napoleon-Kamine und Napoleon-Gourmet-Grillmodelle vorhersehen.

Seit der erste Holzofen vor 30 Jahren vom Band rollte, hat sich Wolf Steel intensiv der Herstellung herausragender und erfolgreicher Produkte verschrieben. Das ursprüngliche Ofenmodell war zweitürig, aus solidem Gusseisen und wurde auf 93 m² Herstellungsfläche gefertigt. 1981 wurde der Name „Napoleon“ geboren. Unter diesem Namen wurde auch das erste Ofenmodell mit einer einzelnen Glastür aus hitzebeständiger Pycroceram-Glaskeramik hergestellt – damals ein Novum in dieser Branche. Dies war der erste unter vielen wichtigen Meilensteinen für Wolf Steel: über die nächsten Jahre wuchs die Nachfrage nach Napoleon-Holzöfen stetig über die Grenzen von Ontario und Kanada hinaus und weitete sich langsam bis in die USA aus.

Napoleon arbeitet gemeinsam mit seinen Kunden am Entwurf und an der Implementierung von neuen Funktionen und Ausstattungsmerkmalen, die von anspruchsvollen Konsumenten in der ganzen Welt gefordert werden.
